On Wednesday, November 15, 2017, in the context of the Contemporary Music Festival of the PUC Music Institute, Chile. A version of the piece Four6 by John Cage was performed in GAM´s biggest venue. Colombina Parra, Isidora Edwards, Tomas Preuss and Cristian Parker were the performers. Today Instrumental Producciones is pleased to launch this record in this platform.
The sound result is a universe of its own with different levels of listening and enhancing the diverse materiality of the sound sources used by the four interpreters. Thus we hear Isidora's cello dialogue with the found objects (cellophane paper, an aluminum fountain, old electronic toys, adhesive tapes, etc.) of Colombina and Tomas, at the same time mixing with Cristian's digital electronics and the signal processing through effects and pedalboards of Tomas. The voice is also present in 3 different ways. One subtle, smooth and repetitive, the other exploratory, uninhibited and almost operatic, and finally the visceral bird-like cry, processed by delay. Voices of Colombina, Isidora and Cristian respectively. That end up nurturing the interpretation of this piece, turning the result into a unique experience.
"This way of making music breaks all the rules that we have been taught to compose" -Colombina Parra tells us- "Here there are no scales, there are no harmonies that have to sound in tune. Here there is pure freedom and that is how we should making music from children and not with the rules imposed on us at school and later at university. It is a twist to feel with all the senses, a way of sounding like dreaming. "
